All of y’all who’ve been around a while or read my “as for me” page know that I have been posting under a name similar to my own but not quite my own because my husband preferred it that way. And that was okay while I was posting regular mom-type stuff. I have felt compelled, though, to give my real name because to do less is akin to denying my love for & faith in God and my belief that Jesus is our salvation. I talked to Studly about it this afternoon and, understanding my conviction on this issue, he’s in agreement.
My real name is Shelby DellaRosa and I stand for God. I have a heart for Jesus. I will sing His praises and own my beliefs.
If you look up Shelby on some of the baby name web sites, you’ll find that “Willow” is one of the meanings. Y’all can still call me Willow; I infinitely prefer it over Shelby. I’ll still post as Willow (largely cuz I can’t figure out how to change it!) I was always mad that my mama chose Shelby over Abigail, which was her other choice! Then I could have been Abi, or Gabi, or Gail…

beautiful name either way…
Glad to ‘meet’ you!!
I wanted to be Kathryn Taylor (which was my mom’s other choice) but nope I’m just Kathy! LOL!
I never knew that Mama thought about naming you Abigail…wonder where she got that from? Did she have another name for our younger sister in mind?
Either name is beautiful. Willow is a suitable nickname though…makes me think of peace and grace.
Nice to meet you Shelby. Years ago I saw a little bookmark that said my name (Dorsey) meant “Near the Water”. But I haven’t been able to find a meaning every since.
One of my daughters is named Shelbie. I love the name. I love Willow, too.
willow,
you have a lovely name. Am too used to calling you Willow
Willow suits me just fine, Dominique! I have ALWAYS disliked my name and was only too happy to find an alternative when Studly wanted me to blog with a pseudonym!
Hey Willow! I’ve always thought Shelby was a beautiful name. But I hear you, I wished my mom had called me Charity like she wanted, instead of Sheila which seemed like she just couldn’t think of any more girl names.
Dear Shelbie,
I love the name Willow!
It is funny how we are about names. My name is Hope, but I never felt as if I could live up to that name; so I thought I would call myself Ernestine, meaning earnest, sincere; I am both of those. Two of my sisters are Faith and Charity; they both live up to their names splendidly. Faith is loyal, true, and strong, and Charity is full of laughter and good works.
My husband requested that I promise I would never change my name to Ernestine. My mother hated it so much she said, “Why don’t you just call yourself mud?” My mother-in-law said, “We ALL feel like an Ernestine at the end of a long day”.
